May 28, 2025: The Hail Reports That Name Cedar Park

What was reported, by whom, and how much weight a report can carry when the question is one particular roof.

First row: NOAA Storm Prediction Center report as republished by HailDrive. Other rows: StormerSite's report log for Cedar Park, which compiles Storm Prediction Center, weather service and public reports. Both read October 5, 2026. The federal Storm Events database was not consulted directly.

The same storm system produced larger hail in Austin that evening. News coverage described baseball-size stones, damage at the Texas Capitol and tens of thousands of customers without power. Those figures are Austin's, not Cedar Park's.

How to Read a Hail Report

  • It is one observation. Someone measured or estimated a stone at one location. Hail swaths are narrow and uneven. A street a mile away can get nothing.
  • Sizes are often estimates. “Quarter” and “golf ball” are comparisons. The report with a ruler in the photo is the most reliable of the set.
  • Duration matters. Twenty minutes of hail does more than two minutes of the same size.
  • Wind matters. Hail driven sideways hits siding, window screens and the windward roof slope harder.

One inch is the size at which the weather service classes hail as severe. Roofers generally start looking for shingle bruising from about that size up, depending on the age of the roof.

What to Do With This

If your roof was on before May 28, 2025 and has not been looked at since, it is reasonable to have it checked. That is all the reports can tell you.

What an inspection covers is on the storm damage inspection page.

This site does not file, negotiate, adjust or settle insurance claims, and nothing on this page is a statement about what any policy covers. Reporting deadlines and coverage are questions for your insurer or agent.

Roof Not Checked Since That Storm?

A local roofer can walk it and photograph what is there.
