Siding Repair in Cedar Park

Most siding repairs here are in the same few places: the bottom boards above a porch or patio roof, the corners of the chimney chase, and wherever a gutter ends against a wall.

Siding rarely fails evenly. A few boards go soft while the rest of the wall is fine, and there is nearly always a water reason for it.

The contractor replaces the damaged boards, fixes the flashing or clearance that caused the damage, and primes and paints the repair.

The Three Usual Spots

Just above a lower roof

Where an upstairs wall lands on the patio, porch or garage roof, the bottom course of siding gets splashed in every rain. If it was installed touching the shingles, it also wicks water up from below. The edges swell, the paint peels and the board crumbles.

Where a gutter ends at a wall

Without a kickout diverter, the water from that whole stretch of roof edge runs down the siding at one point. Look for a dark streak below the gutter end.

Chimney chase corners

The corner trim on the chase faces the weather on two sides and is almost never repainted because it is hard to reach.

Fixing the Cause, Not Only the Board

New boards in the same wet spot will fail the same way. A proper repair includes:

  • Step flashing behind the siding where it meets the roof, and a kickout at the bottom end.
  • A gap between the bottom edge of the board and the shingles, so the edge can dry.
  • Primer on every cut end before the board goes up.
  • Sealant at butt joints and trim, and paint over all of it.

If the sheathing behind the boards is soft, it gets cut out and replaced. Ask to see it before it is covered.

Is It Hail?

Hail driven by wind chips paint and can crack fiber cement and dent metal trim on the side of the house that faced the storm. If the damage is all on one side and appeared after a storm, mention the date. Reports naming Cedar Park are listed on the May 28, 2025 page.

Questions About Siding Repair in Cedar Park

Can a few boards be replaced without redoing the wall?

Yes. Lap siding comes apart a course at a time. The new boards need to match the old ones in width and texture, and the patch needs paint to blend.

My siding looks fine but feels soft at the bottom. Is that a problem?

Yes. Softness means the board has been taking in water. It will get worse, and the sheathing behind it may be wet too.

Does a siding repair need a permit in Cedar Park?

The city pages read for this site do not address siding. The building office confirms by phone at 512-401-5100.
