Siding Replacement in Cedar Park
On a house that is half masonry, new siding means the upper walls, the gables and often the back. That changes the price, the access and the details that matter.
Replacing siding is worth it when boards are failing in many places, when the paint will not hold, or when what is behind the boards needs to be seen and fixed.
The contractor removes the old siding, repairs sheathing, installs a water barrier and flashing, hangs the new siding and trim, and caulks and paints or leaves it ready for paint.

How Much Siding Is There to Replace?
Less than on a house in most of the country, and it is in harder places to reach. Cedar Park's standard for new single-family houses, confirmed by a 5 to 1 council vote on April 12, 2012, is at least 50 percent masonry, and 75 percent where the house faces two streets. Masonry was described in coverage of the vote as brick, stone and concrete block.
Builders met the rule by putting stone or brick on the front and the ground floor. The siding went everywhere else: second-story side and rear walls, gables, dormers and the chase around the fireplace flue.
So a typical job here is mostly ladder and scaffold work above a masonry base or a lower roof, with a lot of cutting around roof lines.

What a Full Scope Covers
- Tear-off of all siding on the walls being done, not new boards over old.
- Sheathing repair priced per sheet in advance.
- Water barrier over the sheathing, lapped so water runs out and not in.
- Flashing: above windows and doors, where siding sits on top of the masonry, and step flashing with a kickout wherever a wall meets a lower roof.
- Clearance between the bottom edge of the siding and any roof surface below it.
- Siding and trim by product name, thickness and exposure.
- Caulk and paint, or factory finish, and who touches up cut ends.
Ask for photos of the wall with the old siding off. That is the only time anyone sees the sheathing and the flashing.
Permits and Approvals
The Cedar Park pages read for this site do not say whether replacing siding needs a permit. The city tells people to call 512-401-5100 to confirm, and a contractor registered with the city should handle that question as part of the job.
Association approval is separate. If the color or the material is changing, most HOAs want a form submitted first.
Questions About Siding Replacement in Cedar Park
Can I replace only the back and sides and leave the gables?
Yes. Walls can be done in phases. Corners and trim are the natural stopping points, and paint color needs to be matched across old and new.
What material do contractors here usually install?
Fiber cement is the product most Central Texas siding companies lead with, and engineered wood is the main alternative. Which one is on your house now is something the contractor confirms on site.
Could I switch the siding areas to stone?
It can be priced. Added stone veneer brings weight and flashing details of its own, and your association may have a say.
