Storm Damage Roof Inspection in Cedar Park
After hail or wind, the useful first step is a contractor on the roof with a camera, and a set of photos that belongs to you.
Hail damage is often invisible from the yard. Bruised shingles look fine until the granules wash off months later. An inspection finds out now.
The contractor walks the roof, checks the soft metals and the siding, photographs what they find and tells you whether it adds up to a repair, a replacement or nothing.

What Was Reported in Cedar Park
Two dated sets of reports name the city:
| Date | Reported size | Where the figure comes from |
|---|---|---|
| May 28, 2025 | 1.0 to 2.0 inches | A report relayed by the National Weather Service to the Storm Prediction Center put quarter-size hail at Park Street and U.S. 183. Public reports logged for Cedar Park that evening include 1.5 inches with a ruler in the photo and “nickel to chicken egg size hail for 20 minutes.” |
| April 15, 2021 | 1.75 inches | Two reports for Cedar Park in a public log of storm reports. |
Storm Prediction Center report as republished by HailDrive; StormerSite's Cedar Park report log. Read October 5, 2026. Reports are individual observations, not a survey of the whole city.
More detail is on the May 28, 2025 page. A report tells you a storm happened nearby. It cannot tell you what happened to your roof.
What the Contractor Checks
- Soft metal first. Box vents, ridge vent, flashing, gutters and downspouts dent at smaller hail sizes than shingles bruise. Dents there show the size and direction of the hail.
- Shingles by slope. Bruises are marked with chalk and counted in a measured square on each slope, since hail usually hits one side of a house harder.
- Ridge caps and edges. The most exposed shingles.
- Siding, trim and screens. On a house with siding on the upper walls and gables, wind-driven hail chips paint and cracks boards on the side the storm came from.
- Wind damage. Creased, lifted or missing shingles and loose ridge caps.
What You Should Be Handed
A set of dated photos, labeled by slope. A count of hits per test square. A short written opinion: no damage, repairable damage, or damage across the roof. A repair or replacement price if one is warranted.
Keep it even if nothing is wrong. A clean report with a date is useful the next time a storm comes through.
Where This Site Stops
Insurance claims are outside what this site does: it does not file, negotiate, adjust or settle them. What a policy covers is a question for your insurer or agent.
A contractor can document the condition of the roof and price the work. Be cautious of anyone at the door after a storm who asks you to sign something before they have been on the roof.
Questions About Storm Damage Roof Inspection in Cedar Park
How soon after a storm should the roof be checked?
Within a few weeks is sensible. Chalk and photos are clearer before more weather passes, and your policy may set a time limit for reporting damage. Ask your agent what that limit is.
Does an inspection cost anything?
That is up to the contractor. Many inspect without charge after a storm. Ask when the visit is arranged.
The roof was replaced a few years ago. Does it still need a look?
A newer roof resists hail better than an old one but is not immune. If neighbors are having roofs checked after a storm, a look at yours settles the question.
Had Hail or High Wind?
A local roofer can get on the roof and show you what is there.
